The word for "color" in Korean is 색깔 (saekkkal). You can also use 색 (saek) depending on context — both are common in everyday speech.
Five colors in Korean have a special descriptive verb (형용사) form ending in -ㅎ다. They behave differently depending on how they are used in a sentence:
① Modifying a Noun
Use the base/modifier form before the noun.
빨간 자전거 — red bicycle
파란 하늘 — blue sky
② Verb Conjugation (State)
Conjugate with 해요체 for "is [color]".
자전거가 빨개요 — The bicycle is red
하늘이 파래요 — The sky is blue
③ Noun + 색
Add 색 to the base form for a noun.
자전거는 빨간색이에요 — The bicycle is red
하늘은 파란색이에요 — The sky is blue
④ Other Colors
Colors like 초록, 보라, 주황 have no -ㅎ다 form. Simply use 색 directly.
초록색 가방 — green bag
